Narrative Text

1. Pengertian

Narrative text adalah teks yang menceritakan suatu peristiwa atau kisah untuk menghibur pembaca/pendengar. Biasanya berupa cerita rakyat, legenda, fabel, dongeng, atau kisah nyata yang dikembangkan secara imajinatif.

2. Tujuan Komunikatif

1. To amuse or entertain the readers/listeners.

2. To tell a story that has a moral value or lesson.

3. Generic Structure (Struktur Umum)

1) Orientation → pengenalan tokoh, waktu, dan tempat cerita.

2) Complication → munculnya masalah atau konflik dalam cerita.

3) Resolution → penyelesaian masalah (happy ending atau sad ending).

4) Re-orientation → penutup atau kesimpulan, biasanya berupa pesan moral.

4. Language Features (Ciri Kebahasaan)

1. Menggunakan past tense (e.g., went, saw, was, were).

2. Menggunakan action verbs (e.g., ran, shouted, killed).

3. Menggunakan time conjunctions (e.g., once upon a time, then, after that, finally).

4. Banyak menggunakan kata sifat (adjectives) untuk menggambarkan tokoh dan suasana.

5. Contoh Singkat

The Legend of Malin Kundang
Once upon a time, there lived a poor widow and her son, Malin Kundang. Malin grew up as a smart and strong boy. One day, he sailed to seek a better life. Years later, he became rich and married a beautiful woman. When he returned home, his mother was very happy to see him. However, Malin was ashamed of his poor mother and denied her. His mother was angry and cursed him. Suddenly, Malin turned into a stone.

Moral Value: We must respect and love our parents.
